What gynecology services might I receive?

You can schedule an appointment any time you need gynecologic care. However, you should make it a point to schedule annual well-woman exams. Well-woman exams are the heart of gynecology because they focus on preventive health care.

With routine checkups, your provider can find the early signs of problems long before you have any symptoms. That means you have time to treat problems before they turn into serious complications.

Does gynecology cover birth control?

Yes, your gynecologic care at Beaumont WELLness for Women includes all types of birth control. In addition to contraceptives such as the birth control pill, patches, rings, and shots, your provider also offers long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs).

LARCs include the Nexplanon® implant and intrauterine devices (IUDs) such as Paragard®, Kyleena®, and Mirena®. These devices are 99% effective. 

IUDs and the implant are inserted in the office and are long-acting because they can stay in place for 3-10 years, depending on which one you choose. You and your provider can discuss the best option for you and your needs. These are completely reversible and can be removed at any time.

When do I need gynecology services?

In addition to an annual well-woman exam, you should visit your Beaumont WELLness for Women provider if you have:

• Heavy bleeding
• Bleeding between periods
• Bleeding after menopause
• Irregular or missed periods
• No menstrual periods
• Pelvic pain or pressure (not due to menstrual cramps)
